Welcome!
Introduction
Hello everyone!
My name is Katy Celina. I'm a Ph.D. candidate in Neuroscience. I completed my Master of Science in Psychology in 2020. I've decided to create this website to showcase my journey as a 1st generation Latina grad student in STEM and to showcase my work as a knowledge mobilizer and mentor.
I was born and raised in Montreal (QC) from Salvadorean parents. I speak, read and write Spanish, French and English. I did my Collegiate Diploma at Dawson College in Health Science in 2015. Went on to do my Bachelor of Science in Psychology: Neuroscience option with a minor in Biochemistry at Bishop's University from 2015-2018. During my undergraduate studies, I worked in a neuroimmunology lab and co-created a nap room on campus (The BU Snooze Room). From 2018- 2020, I studied the effect of maternal immune activation on the behaviour of mice lacking vesicular zinc (published).
I am currently a NSERC Scholarship PhD Recipient at McMaster University. I study the role of oxytocin in social and stress behaviours in a mouse model of autism (Choe Lab) using fiber photometry calcium imaging, behavioural testings, and immunohistochemistry techniques.
